    Weekly Theme Spring has Sprung

The theme this week is Spring has Sprung, apologies to those in the Southern Hemisphere as I know you are entering your winter as the theme this week is Spring. What heralds the start of Spring in your neck of the woods, a flower, a migrating bird returning after winter, the springs sales, fetes and many other activities that spring (excuse the pun) up and signal the end of winter.

To our friends down under dig through the archives and see what you can find.

ONLY 2 IMAGES PER POST PLEASE - GIVE EVERYONE A CHANCE

This theme will run for 2 weeks.

The birds, in this case a blackbird finding food for either Mum or newly hatched chicks and the tulips always a welcome sight with their bright red heads waving in the breeze.

I built my own macro extension tube a few days ago, and shot this yesterday afternoon in my front yard. To give perspective on the scale, this flower is only about the diameter of a US Quarter (3/4 of an inch or so). This was shot on a Canon 60D with a 24-105L lens, stopped down manually to F11, attached to a DIY extension tube that is about 3" long, hanging upside down from my tripod. Triggered with a remote trigger to avoid camera shake - the exposure is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3/4 of a second.

This is my first real foray into macro photography, and the first shot I was even a little happy with. Lucky it fits this week's theme so perfectly.

I hate to do this, but a few hours ago I took the following picture for this thread, and I could swear I posted it, but I guess it didn't "take".
So it's not like I'm posting three images this time, OK? This is just making up for not hitting the right button like four hours ago...
    ... third try...
