Venice by night

Various views in Venice from May this year....all taken after midnight when, in my opinion, the city is at its most beautiful and mysterious. Indeed the 3rd of these was taken after over an hour of being lost in the various alleys of the city with my friend. We were both very glad to find the accademia bridge as this meant we could find our way back to our hotel.

She was in charge of directions BTW lol

The story behind these shots is very emotional for me. This was a short break with a very close friend of mine - the culmination, in fact, of our relationship to that point. The first photo was taken at the end of the first day - a really wonderful day but one which had ended with us deciding that our relationship had to end after the trip.

We wandered the streets of Venice that night - hardly knowing what we had done but this seemed to add to the romance of the city and the night.

The third image was the final image of the trip - taken at the end of a long day in Verona. On returning to Venice late we had tried to find this place where this photo had been planned when we visited the bridge in daylight. But we got lost and spent ages trying to find our way. My friend was not wearing shoes for lots of walking and her feet were a total mess by the time we found the bridge (as was her mood).

But we got the shot....and the next morning we walked out of the hotel and at the end of the street she turned and went one way whilst I turned and went the other. The plan was that we would never meet again.

We did.....but that's a whole other story.
