Ah man!!! I was looking at the D300 but after seeing that I guess I will wait until I can get the 700. It looks really good. Maybe there's a lottery drawing tonight I can win![]()

But...one drawback, as reported in the review in "Popular Photography"(Sept 2008, Pp 86-88)...The D700 steps down to 5 MP if you use it with 1.5X lens-factor DX-format glass!
I was on the Nikon page and didn't see any Nikon Lenses in FX format yet! But when they come out, I'll bet they are pricey! So without some EXPENSIVE full-frame lenses, we will never see 12.1 MP!
This is what turned me away and maybe put back the D300 on my "wish list".

Interesting, thanks Robsarge. So that isn't the case with the D300?

Mike, this is directly from the Nikon webpage---
D300 - "12.3-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor: Nikon's exclusive digital image processing system advances DX-format image quality to new levels".
Here is the Pixel quality for the D700...
FX-format
(L) 4,256 x 2,832 = 12.05 MP
(M)3,184 x 2,120
(S)2,128 x 1,416
DX-format
(L) 2,784 x 1,848 = 5.14 MP
(M) 2,080 x 1,384
(S)1,392 x 920 Image Area (pixels)
My opinion, for what it's worth, the D300 gives you more for less money! Don't think the few extra "bells & whistles" on the D700 are worth the extra money.![]()

I have heard from someone pretty well "in-the-know" that Canon will have a major announcement around Sep. 26. Of course there are a ton of rumors all over the net- and Canon has put a Teaser page on their website.
Regardless of what it will be called and what the details are- this gentleman I referred to said it is going to blow everything out of the water. So, we'll just have to wait and see. Could be vary interesting.
