getting started with indoor photography? what do I need?
Hi, I am wanting to start taking some indoor portraits for friends and family to get started. Ive been taking outdoor portraits for awhile, but I dont use flashes, just light reflectors, Lighting with flashes confuses me some how and I dont know where to start lol.
I just moved into new house with basement and want to put up a little studio to work with down there...
what are some things I need to get started? I dont have a ton of money, so just the basic requirments!

Start by reading as much as you can concerning lighting. Websites such as "The Strobist" and others with tutorials. I don't know if the typical basement has enough headroom, but it is a place to start. You can probably come up with some homemade devices, such as a backdrop holder, etc., but the more expensive parts, such as lights, are something that you simply need to purchase. IMO, you need to get some flashes and start learning them.

O.K., if you can swing the cost of a new speedlight, get the SB-910 and a few inexpensive modifiers, such as a softbox and/or umbrellas, reflectors, etc. With the new technology, it is amazing what a speedlight can do. I'm not sure if your D40 can utilize all the functions, but the light can perform somewhat independently from the camera at least well enough to make a difference.
Alternatively, perhaps you can pick up some used studio strobes and some modifiers and stands, etc. You will need to practice quite a lot to get good at it, but you should anyway.

If you want to start a indoor photography studio then you have need to collect some photography equipments such as camera, flashes, photo printer and other more. If you are beginners of it then you have need to learn that the camera’s ISO settings because it's primary step for beginning photography.
