I was in a bind, my last couple photo shoots needed tons of photoshop due to poor lighting. I have been using hot lights for years.

My bulbs for both the lights and softboxes are over 10.00 and only last 4 hours. So I find myself always turning them on and off when they are in use and replacing them often.

I wanted to move up to strobes. Studio level strobes are expensive and would require an entire list of accessories to be worth the change.

Then I found these gems! Low cost, High Output AC "Screw in" Strobes!!!!

They can be used in my existing Hot Light Stands just like a bulb! They will last for years and the output is super.

They have a built in slave that senses my flash and then fires the strobe.

    TOTAL COST - 19.95

The have Color Filters and Barn Doors as well!

So far Adorama is the only site I found that carries them.

    Description
Guide number 90 at ISO 100. Angle of coverage 50°, recycles in 4 seconds. Screws into any standard household socket. Built-in slave triggers the unit when another flash is fired. Requires no batteries.

Looks like a great idea. Clamp lights from Home Depot with these bulbs could be just the ticket!

I have played with them and they seem great. I will upload a shot tonight. I fire one into an umbrella and another on the background with a color filter attached. Great results. My camera flash acts as a nice fill.

Grandpa has the right idea, some clamp lights and you have an awesome traveling glamour and portrait set up.

They are so cheap, if you break or lose one, who cares.

I've checked these out before, never tried them tho. I think all you do is set them around....the built in flash on your camera should make them fire. Give it a go.

Someone needs to post some pictures of the results!
