Arrow Photoforum Photography Challenge 2011-11 - Candid Camera

Candid Photography: (stolen shamelessly from Wikipedia ) "Photography that focuses on spontaneity rather than technique, on the immersion of a camera within events rather than focusing on setting up a staged situation or on preparing a lengthy camera setup.

Candid photography is best described as un-posed and unplanned, immediate and unobtrusive. This is in contrast to classic photography, which includes aspects such as carefully staged portrait photography, landscape photography or object photography. Candid photography catches moments of life from immersion in it.

So do some reading. Google "street photography." Check out the imagery of Henri Cartier-Bresson. Then go find some places where there are lots of people. People are interesting. Capture them!

    The rules:

    1. Only photos taken during the challenge period should be posted.
    2. Limit of 2 pictures per post for this topic.
    3. Discussion of technique and/or inspiration is encouraged!
    4. Remember - this is NOT a contest - no voting, no prizes - other than better photos!

Have fun - take pictures - be spontaneous!

.. I have been wanting to take the short "walk on" ferry ride across to "Jetty Island" for years & decided
to do so yesterday, so with this weeks challenge in mind' I wore my wide angle aboard.
.. not the greatest exposures' but here goes.

I rarely take pictures of any people, never mind candids. So I think I may have missed the mark on this first attempt, but maybe I just need to ease into a bit.

I hope this one is okay to submit.

Watch the birdy ... She had Eyes at the back of her head (must be a mum/mom) ... pieces of eight...

Sorry, I wasn't sure of a suitable caption.

I was out to take some candids at a recent local festival with a new lens so the objective was nice bokeh, and sharpness. The light was very good so I could do some low ISO shots, hand held. I am particularly pleased with this one as I did not sharpen the RAW file as you do normally and the Owls eye seems nice and sharpe. This was shot at F8, 300mm ISO400. Cropped to reduce distractions in CS5. This was shot on the same day as the Harris Hawke shots I took. Luck or judgement... not sure, but pleased.

Nice catch, Graydon! Clear and sharp. Well done.
