The golden hour, or magic hour, is generally defined as the first and last hour of sunlight during the day, both morning and evening. So, an hour before and after sunrise, and an hour before and after sunset.

During these times, lighting is softer (more diffuse) and warmer in hue, and shadows are longer. When the Sun is near the horizon, sunlight travels through more of the atmosphere, reducing the intensity of the direct light. More blue light is scattered, so that light from the Sun appears more reddish.

This light is flattering to almost any subject, from landscape to portrait to wildlife.

So, your challenge is simple. The weather's getting nicer. Get outside and capture images with that warm golden glow of magic hour. Show us what you get.

    The rules:

    1. Only photos taken during the challenge period should be posted.
    2. Limit of 2 pictures per post for this topic.
    3. Discussion of technique and/or inspiration is encouraged!
    4. Remember - this is NOT a contest - no voting, no prizes - other than better photos!

Have fun - take pictures - enjoy the golden hour!

Sorry for my ignorance, but did you list a start and end date for this challenge?

    Welcome to the forum, Jerm.

Jay's answer is accurate. The length of the challenge is USUALLY around 2 weeks. Sometimes longer. Depends on my real life workload.

I'm a little nervous about going first.
Here are two from tonight. I wasn't expecting the sun to come out from behind the clouds so this was the only place I could get to before it set.

No reason to be nervous, Marie. That's some beautiful light!

When I read this challenge's topic, the golden hour, I immediately thought of three or four great spots that I remember from my youth that would be great for this.
I used to go to school by bike, and there's some great views along that way that look really stunning in the right light. I might try to get there in the weekend.

In the meantime, I went looking for some other nice spots where I live now.
This picture was taken tonight from a tower built right next to the crossing of two canals.

Took a few other pictures that were OK, but I liked this one best for this challenge. As the sun was setting behind me, the inside of the tower turned a nice tint of orange.
I wish I could've stayed a bit longer, but I only had a bit of time to spare... Maybe next time.

Thanks Dane Now that we're rolling a bit, I don't mind adding another one.

After today the sun won't be out until Sunday, so I thought I'd try one on the way to work this morning. I was still getting myself into the right position when a dog started barking so I had to beat a hasty retreat to the car.
