General Slocum Before and After

This is a glass plate photo of General Slocum from the Library of Congress. Sometimes the repairs take longer than the coloring.

Thanks guys for your response. Now Im not sure about the original. Its a glass plate and I assumed the black diagonal line was the separation of the two pieces and it was a crack. After examining Slocums face however, what I originally did was slide the one section close to the other. If it was a separation that would be ok. But Im thinking now the black is something else. If anyone is familiar with glass plate photos and can explain to me what that black line is Id sure appreciate that. On this pic I redid it and just filled in the black leaving the parts on the other side of the line in place as they were. The difference is subtle and leaves Slocum slightly less beady eyed. In the original his left eye looks too close to his nose.

I love to see these before and afters. Amazing transition. How long does it take you to do a typical restoration like this?

In this case about an hour for the restoration and an hour for the coloring. In restoring I assumed the black line was the break in the glass so I shifted the glass to but up with the other piece. When it was all together, colored and finished he looked beady eyed so I started over and fixed his eyes.
