I use GIMP and UFRaw, as I use Linux exclusively (eradicated Microsoft from our house several years ago). I'd like to use Photoshop -- it is a bit better than GIMP, but I don't like running it under WINE, so I'm waiting for a Linux native version.

Sure. I notice that the latest version is much faster on Linux, however.

Dude, that is the question all of us Vista users have learned (dreaded) to ask:)

Yes and once you get used to The Gimp you will love it! It is absolutely the closest thing to Photoshop without a price tag.

I HATE GIMP! I'm depressed I'm forced to use it thanks to my Photoshop crapping out on me :'( I will have to make it work. Thanks to everyone for all those links though it gives me a few more alternatives later!

This is a interesting thread .... I have a link that may help with the GIMP ....

It is a very easy way to see what GIMP can do and video explanations of how best
    to use it ......

    http://meetthegimp.org/

It probably is difficult to swap from software that costs so much ...... to the GIMP .....

But if you start with GIMP and use the video tutorials ........ it can be very rewarding.

For the price ..... I find it difficult to HATE it ....... in fact I quite enjoy using it ,,,,,,

Just another opinion on the GIMP ......
