A friend is expecting #3 and wanted some pictures of the girls and her pregnant splendor... I have decided to really try to grow this year and try to figure out if I could make a go at being a photographer. I have realized that for a good portion of my shots that day my depth of field was too shallow... and that I am tired of using a sheet in the background. Hopefully a year from now I will be able to look at these and tell you how far I have come, but for where I am right now, I was pretty pleased.

I think the poses are adorable and very natural. I think you did a great job. I agree with you about the DOF. The only thing I would recommend is to use another white sheet on the ground. Keep up the good work!

    Gretchen,

I really like your first image. I don't mind the sheet. As Colleen suggested, extending the background onto the floor would have greatly added to this picture. If you also move your subjects farther away from your background, it would have been more out of focus to minimize the sheet appearance and make it look more like a canvas.

I tried making those changes in Photoshop. It's a low res image, so the editing is a little crude. I also vignetted the corners to keep the viewer's attention on your subject. See what you think.

But it's a great image. Ton's of love is evident.

I think your first attempt was a good one. The processing on the first and last photos are great. Hub and Colleen gave great advice about extending the background and getting the subject further away from it. Overall, you have done well and just keep practicing!

Thanks for all of the tips.... We were in her home, so there wasn't a lot of room... I already had the pregnant lady helping me to move the sofa... Hub.. I really liked the vignetting technique!

Thanks again... In a couple of weeks I'll post the baby pictures and the announcement (I LOVE to design announcements!)

Those are some really nice photos I'm still new and have nothing but my humble opinion to offer and I think they are really nice and she will treasure them for years to come!

    I love 'em!
The first would be my choice for a framed portrait --
(you got some good advice on that one) --

It can sometimes be challenging to work with children and their parents, but it looks like they were all having a great time together. That alone speaks to your potential as a pro. The importance of working well with people cannot be overlooked, IMO. That is something that can be developed, but I don't think it can be taught.

    Very nice series!
