local band playing outside at a small outdoor venue recently.....ive been doing photography here for some time always using ambient lighting only never any flash much less strobes...the stage has overhead lighting from 3 spots... i set the strobes back some 30feet and 10 foot off the ground, directed them towards stage and aimed to hit performers waist hi+...pleasantly surprised with outcome as initial setting proved to be about right as it wasnt haardly strong enough to cause any shadowing on back wall area.... nor were there any washed out results...material is pretty much straight out of the camera w\o any major pp'ing...sure would be nice to get this consistency all the time in the future, lens used was 70-200 2.8 L....posting 9 images ......the alien bees are the 1600's .....set exceptionally low for this event as overhead stage light is pretty hot in its own right as you may know
