Sue, most of the time, i select mat colors and frames that complement the colors in my images. i find the concept of a white mat and black frame boring in the extreme, and rarely do that, even for gallery exhibits. i like the idea of creating a coordinated, "finished" piece, and to me, the white/black mat/frame combination looks like the artist couldn't be bothered to do it properly. the one exception is B&W prints... those i will do with white mats and black frames, just because that suits the image.

some people think using the same color mat and frame for all pieces creates a sense of cohesiveness for the display, but i've never been overly concerned with that, because most of my work is so varied in terms of subject matter that it's really kind of a moot point. besides, no one's gonna buy the entire collection, so if the mats and frames don't all match, it really doesn't matter! the one exception might be if i do a show of my "Textures" collection... for that, i might do the gallery frame thing, just because all the images would be in a very similar genre anyway.

and of course, my canvas prints need no frames anyway...

Glenn, I do too. One of my favorite treasures is an antique English watercolor (I had to put it in "layaway" to be able to acquire it); another is an pottery piece. I also cherish a piece of fine art photography given to me by my teacher as well as an oil painting by a long time friend of the family. What's on YOUR walls? Who are some of the artists you collect.

"Collect" is putting it rather strongly. I have a couple of Montague Dawson prints and a Smitheman print on my living room wall. I like seascapes and sailing ships.

I enlarged my 3 favorite pictures from Escalante, Utah. The waterfall is at the end of a very lovely 2 mile hike.

    Val, that's very pretty!

I need to get updated pictures of these two. Hopefully in a couple weeks, and hopefully the grand daughter will cooperate this time! She's definitely got the 2 year old attitude!

Picked it up from a local store. Kitchen wall above the table.
I pack two things wherever I go: A gun and a camera. You probably don't want to end up in front of either one.
