Biggest storm of the winter is about to hit us and I ain't going nowhere so decided to put together a few macros showing the results of small apertures, used the 60mm Nikkor Micro lens, all manual focus using various light sources. I was always told that there is an optimum aperture to get the best out of a macro lens(around f/18 I think), these while showing a decent DOF are not as sharp as I would have liked. Camera stuck on a little table tripod using the cable release.

8 secs @ f/36 using an LED for light

5 secs @ f/40 using same LED for light

3 secs @ f/40 using lambency lightsphere bounced off ceiling

    1/60th @ F/20 using SB600 with Lambency lightsphere at 90deg

..... and guess who stuck his big nose in as I was finishing, 1/60th @ f/3.3 using built in flash

George, I adore the first image. I found it interesting and informative to read your camera settings for the various shots. All of that information is beginning to mean more and more to me as I grow in this photography journey! And, of course, ALWAYS enjoy pics with Felix! Precious!

Thanks Sue #1 does show a real good DOF from the stalk at the back to the trumpet at the front when set at f/36 which is about the minimum I can get.

Thanks, George. Great detail in those daffys. I couldn't believe they were in full bloom when I got home.

Me neither seeemed to come out all at once, at least the colour gives us a taste of summer.

    George,

I like 4 here the very best. I thought I liked 3 until I saw 4. 5 is good too though.

Thanks Heather just wanted to show some DOF examples using a really small aperture - apart from the last one of course when "buggerlugs" stuck his nose in, there was another of him which I didn't like for all sorts of reasons but I'll put it up anyway for his fans

my favorite is the first one...

I'm surprised you can even have flowers with Felix around...my two eat every flower that comes through my door. Maybe that's because they are indoor cats

I'm also so jealous that you guys have daffodils in bloom...you should see out my door. At least seven feet of snow!!
