I made the hike into Dream Lake at Rocky Mountain National Park, CO in the dark to capture the sunrise and hopefully some clouds over Hallett Peak. Instead, there were clear skies to the west and heavy clouds obscuring the sun in the east. When the sun peaked through one of the holes in the clouds, it created a spotlight effect on the side of the mountain.

Richard it was worth the trek that is an excellent image, great foreground detail, good reflection, caught the light at unique time in the day and great DOF, everything that makes a great shot

    As they said!

One quick question Rick. What would have been the result with the same filter and same setting but using D70 instead of that monster of a camera D2X??
    cheers

    Omnishri,

All other things being equal, the camera will produce pretty much the same results, just less pixels.

What is important is 1) a chosen composition and light that is dynamic, interesting, and defines the place, 2) being there at the right time (which involves many early, early mornings and physical endurance to get to the places at those times) and 3) proper interpretation of the scene, post processing. Since I shoot RAW, many decisions about the image itself are made days after the image was captured. My intention is to always make the viewer feel the same as I when I was standing behind the tripod (in this case, knee-deep, icy water).
