    They come in both white and pink when they first come up and turn brown like this when they age, George.

    .. Willard' you are a wealth of knowledge! ... just a couple days ago me and my sister went on a little hike
    in the foothills of the Cascades out here in Washington State' & spotted something similar in a few spot's
    on the forest floor, not the greatest shot' but what do you think?
    Could be a distant cousin maybe?

    Those are they, Don, both old and new.

    I'm a shroon hunter and keep my eye on the forest floor. I have known about these since my grandfather pointed them out to me as a child. I have a folder with Indian Pipe photographs and keep adding to it

    What a fascinating plant and until I clicked on your post had absolutely no idea what they were-and now I do,so thank you for sharing these shots Isn't the 'net wonderful. I prefer the lighting and feel of the first shot.
