Yesterday, I shooting 3 AEB shots for HDR result and got this result on the -2 shot . I kind of like. By the way, I am really having trouble with HDR for close up flower shots. I never like the result as much as the originals. Anyone having any luck with HDR for such flower shots?

Oh my goodness. That's just lovely. I haven't used HDR for flowers so I don't have any experience to share. I like your result on this without HDR.

Really nice, never used HDR on flowers - might have to give it a try

Just curious - why would you use HDR for this particular composition?

I admit to just experimenting with HDR for flowers. I quess I am learning that closeup macro shots of flowers are not good subjects for HDR.

That's beautiful. Seems funny that HDR wouldn't work for close-up flowers. I've tried HDR a few times with atrocious results.

For HDR to truely be effective, there has to be a larger range of tones in the scene than your camera can capture in a single exposure. I'm not sure that's often true of flower close-ups. Other than that, really all you're doing is altering the contrast of the image. Sometimes effective, sometimes not so much.

    PS. Nice rose!

    Hi Wini,

Lovely capture, beautiful detail. I have found exposure bracketing a technique to apply when lighting is difficult, but when the light is good and you set the exposure correctly quite often 1 of the 3,5 or 7 seven bracketted shots you take is better than the attempted 'blended' shot.

I wouldn't have selected this subject myself other than for the reason you have - experimenting.

Sorry for keeping the HDR discussion going on this list, but do any of you find that some clarity is lost with bracketed HDR shots? Even with a tripod and great care, it seems when you bring 3 or more photos together, you lose clarity, which may not be so bad for HDR purposes.

This will happen, especially with foliage and flora, if there is even the slightest breeze.
