Val I find it can be use for subtley bring out the edge details in images that might be lacking in contrast, but like with all HDR's its the subject that usually makes it POP

i found not enough sliders for adjustments in the light version. good hdr to me shouldnt look noticeable.

by the way first picture is totaly lacking in dynamic range as a single hdr and is blown out for the most part in the highlights. unless a photo has perfect exposure single hdr shots can look most un-flattering when they blow out. they arent really hdr when single exposure but they are merely tonemapped to look like some of the effects. those effects are easily dupicated with just about any editing software with topaz adjust and nik color efex being the easiest to use.

the 2nd photo isnt blown out but the texture of the pinks to my eye dont look so hot,it looks dirty like there is noise present and it was amplified in the process.. tone mapping single hdr can really make things look griity and dirty even if they are not especially in the darker colors.

i like single hdr on things like old railway cars or things with rust on them. single objects ,no skies i find work best.
