Driving in Northern Minnesota this past weekend, I came around the corner and there was a 500+ pound black bear standing in the road 20 feet infront of me. He was gorgeous, and the background was wonderful, but my camera was in the trunk and I wasn’t getting out of the car. By the time I could get to the camera, he was gone.

In 2003, One of the largest solar flares ever recorded happened. Even hear in Minnesota, the sky with filled with beautiful Aurora Borealis. I have no pictures of it, because I had no idea how to adjust the shutter speeds on the camera at the time.

...It was so amazing. One of the most amazing things I can remember. I watched it for hours, until like 5AM when the sun ruined the show by coming up.

It looked similar to this, but more white, and directly overhead.

Don't laugh, but for those very same reasons, I have a pocket camera attached to my belt loop in a little case at all times.

My husband swears that I wear the darn thing! Also keep one with me while driving back and forth to work.
I've caught some great stuff even with the pocket camera.

    :P
I'd love to catch a solar flare like that!

Tuesday evening last week, a doe was at the side of my road, checking things out. I stopped to let her cross; then 2 fawns followed her across. My camera was on the front seat beside me but by the time I got it out, they were gone.

Bill~ on occasions like that, I've shot through the windshield, not great, but still got a bit of it.

I came around the corner on a gravel road and stopped the car sliding. A great horned owl was sitting dead center in the middle of the road.
I was stunned and forgot I had my p&s in my breast pocket.

    Missed chance.

A similar thing like that happened to me the other night coming home from class.
Great horned owl, sitting right on the edge of the road, and I turned around to see if he had stayed after I passed him, but he had flown. And no camera. He would have flown anyway even if I had my camera. I was within a minute of my house too!
Owl are tricky beasts to catch a shot of.

I never go anywhere without a point and shoot. I'm an old fuddy duddy that can't figure out a smart phone...so there you go!

The bull in the road, the other night would have been cool. But I was so stunned, I just rolled down my window and yelled for it to get out of the dang way!
