While riding, we spotted this skull from a winter kill by coyotes last February.

The skull looked angry and a bit menacing in the late afternoon light:

I did edit with Topaz Adjust and Detail to bring out the markings in the skull.

Here is the original taken on Feb 5, 2010 24 hours after I watched the coyotes take this doe down in the daylight near my creek bottom I had toned down the bright red as it made the photo look a bit startling:

It was a fascinating experience to watch nature work.

I do like the first image. Well captured and good processing.
Coyotes and insects have to eat too. Isn't it amazing how fast the predators and scavengers can clean up a carcass. I mean just think of it, a deer and then 24 hours and not many pickings left except for a few for the rodents and insects. Cool!

21 days after the 'kill', scavengers did abound.

Here is a right friendly fella we found on the 25th...of February.

The first picture really does look like it's angry and menacing! There's a leaf on its right side that kind of looks like an ear.

Possums are real friendly- I've been chasing one out who's been coming in thru the cat door after cat food. A few days ago I borrowed a live trap from a neighbor (who tells me almost every time I mention possum that they have more teeth than any other animal...) It hasn't come in since then and has avoided the trap but I still put the cat food bowls up at night and have to deal with it when the cats wake me in the wee hours for food.

Yikes Bill, Opossums generally are the hosts to some really nasty diseases, one called EPM basically destroys the horse's nervous system and there are other dangers to pets...
    I'd keep friendly possum out!

    Thank you George and everyone.
