Home Rendered Fat

I was pretty pleased I got the focus exactly where it is, showing the detail, texture and clarity of the fat but not over-complicated by too much detail otherwise, like the texture of the ramekin. The texture of the painted wood worked out well, giving just enough interest without taking the focus.

By eck being a Yorkshireman I can appreciate a bit of "mucky fat" - managed the whites well in this image - 3 white subjects and lighting spot on

Thanks, pal! Yeah, Mucky Fat Sandwiches ... Mmmm ...
I used my kitchen window sill for this - the harsh light was just shaded by a window upright and then the subject re-illuminated by bouncing the light off a white salt pig upon which I rested the camera.
The camera is a simple point and shoot, but I was able to take a custom light balance which I did from the plastic window frame, from the sill and from the ramekin. To be honest, I cannot remember which one was the best, but this picture was the best of a number I took. I got lucky with the macro focus - it's exactly where I wanted it just showing off the edge texture of the fat.
Lots of nice textures - the ramekin with uprights, the sill with horizontals and then the creamy fat.
I'm pleased with the picture.

Being a Welsh lad, I don't pretend to know what a mucky fat sandwich is; but by eck it's a grand image is that!

Thank you! I spent some of my life in mid and south Wales - Swansea market for fresh cockles and laver bread was a staple for me. I'll photograph some laver bread as a subject in due course, but here's a taster:
