Recovered one of my father's old lenses... It had a filter screwed on it which reads DOT 52mm 1A. Does this indicate the type of filter? If so, it could be of use to me on another of my 52mm's. Thanks guys

1A is a skylight filter - it's to correct for bluish light quality of open shade but most people use it to protect their lens from dust and scratches. Similar to UV.
