In this thread I want to chart my progress in the world of analogue photography.

After many years of taking photos without giving much thought to the process, about a year ago I started taking things a little more seriously. I invested in a nice bridge camera from Nikon and this whetted my appetite to explore the possibilities a little further. Ironically, perhaps, the experience of using a reasonably sophisticated digital camera has left me wondering about the what-might-have-been years that I somehow spent taking snapshots with user-friendly point and shoot cameras I picked up along the way, even though in the early/mid 80's I had actually invested in a very nice Miranda SLR kit. My nephew now has that camera and I hope he gets more out of it than I ever did.

So anyway this was the first photo I took when my journey of rediscovery began last summer:

Admittedly this was taken with the last in the long line of P&S cameras I mentioned above, but nevertheless I attempted to compose as interesting a shot as I could. Not bad considering I hadn't had the camera in my hands for about 8 years prior to this. Some of the photos I have managed to take with this camera (Konica Z-UP 115e) since then show just what can be achieved even with a simple camera once you set your mind to it....and Lady Luck smiles your way, of course.

Please feel free to comment on and or add your own photos to this thread. I only ask that you bear in mind that I am on a learning curve and that any photos you post should have been taken using film.

    Thanks.

These two photos were also taken using the Konica atop the local shopping mall (one of my favourite locations to practise):

These shots are about angles, lines, framing and repetition. That was the intention anyway. There is also a little humour involved in the first one, which I originally posted in a converted B&W under the title GSOH (good sense of humour) and has to do with the graffiti.

These photos were taken to try out some film (kodak 200 consumer grade) and as basic composition practice. Again the Konica was used (not until after our summer holidays was I able to pick up a second-hand SLR):

There is also an allusion to where I come from in these photos.

Here I wanted to explore lines of perspective and have some depth in the photos. Taken in the Arezzo region of Italy using the Konica:

Now some photos with people. I find it fascinating how the inclusion of the human form can add interest to otherwise ordinary (even mundane) scenes.
Again all taken with the Konica, the first two in Italy and the third in Augsburg:

Nice photos Fred. I am still shooting film, since 1978 and must in the early 80's in Baden Wurttemberg/ Bayern. Now in Alaska and the Caribbean. Like how you show the lines in your photos. Also the people give them "life". Thank you for sharing this photos, and the way you took them/think about the composition.

Thanks akrider, I appreciate your kind words. I really enjoy using film and can't imagine that I'll stop doing so anytime soon.

So, the last one from the Konica for a while:

Taken using Kodak 400 (consumer grade), a film I love using; I find its colours so luxuriant and dreamy.

Now it's time to put some photos taken with my Revue AC-5 under the spotlight:

Revue AC-5, Chinon 35-70mm lens, Agfa APX 100 film

The AC-5 is a repackaged version of the Chinon CP-7. It has centre weighted metering, a multiple exposure function, some program modes to chose from as well as aperture priority, metered manual mode and bulb settings. I like the camera very much for its relatively good versatility, its good ergonomics and weight (it feels really good to handle) and, of course, for the Pentax K bayonet coupling.

Sorry, Fred, somehow I never manage to make it all the way round the forum

I didn't see this thread before now

I like nearly all of it - some really great shots

Although some people would complain about the leaning lampposts in #1, I think they're ok.

I'm not fetishistically fussed about such things

Anyway, you'd also be a great film director, methinks

Thanks, Bert. I think it's time I got back to this thread and added a few more shots....
