I don't think there is any difference in the actual camera. It's more to do with the warranty. Cameras all come from abroad, anyway, but some come with a US warranty covered by Nikon, and will cost you a little more than those that are 'gray market' where the warranty isn't covered by Nikon, but only by the seller. If the camera is used, you take a gamble on it. If it's new and gray market, you still take a gamble that the seller will cover the warranty.
