From a recent trip to New Orleans

Many graves in New Orleans have been looted, this is only one example.
My wife having more guts than I, wanted to look inside the coffin. Out of respect and fear I just couldn't, I think she did.

    Deplorable!
    Well-captured, perfect for BW

How does the Big Easy look, now? Not all like this, I hope!

    Some of it does:

The French Quarter is pretty much as it was prior to Katrina. I saw no visible damage, but the outer areas still have a lot of damage. I seen buildings with the entire side torn away and people were still living in it. There were large commercial buildings that were vacant and still had all of their windows broken out. A major bridge that was half collapsed was still standing in a state of disrepair. It amazes me that it has been two years and this damage is not repaired yet. I didn't get to the 9th ward but the locals tell me it was still a danger zone.

That is absolutely disgraceful. This shows just how horrible people have become. Sad too that some of New Orleans is still in disrepair. Funny, we don't hear this on the news now do we?

    Nice shots, though.

My desire in photography is to capture the essence of life, to make others catch their breath at the purity of the moment captured, I'm still working on that.

I was thinking the same thing!!!

Looting someones grave IS disgraceful, as Julie said.

Separate from that your photos tell the story well and the B&W conversion is perfect. Great contrast.
    Nice work!

Nice series of shots. I don't understand this, maybe different cultres here, but what is there to loot?
I would imagine the looters would be hoping for some kind of jewelry like diamond rings or gold necklaces, something like that. Many families remove these items prior to burial, some do not. Desperate times in an upside down world can make many people do unthinkable things. Thanks all for your comments!

Unbelievable - guess theres something to be said for cremation or at least being put 6 feet under - opens your eyes this does.
