it seems my trusty 5D, after over two years of accompanying me through forest and field, over hill and dale, and into places someone of my years probably ought not to go, has developed "issues"... the shutter seems to be intermittently malfunctioning, and i need to send it back to the service center for repair.
the cost of fixing it aside, just having it unavailable will be a serious downer, since it's been my near-constant companion on my adventures, and has provided me with some absolutely stellar images. but, on the bright side, at least i still have my 40D, so i can still get out and take photos!

I sure have some witnessed real proper shots from your trusty sidekick........
Are you going to rebuild or retire and save up so you can buy the 5d m11 when the 5dmk 69 version comes out???
With the 1ds and 5d mk1 still fetching 800-1200 bucks......I'll be getting the mark one when the mark 69 comes out!!!!

i'll probably just fix the 5D, unless it's beyond economical repair, which is doubtful. it's too good a camera to discard over a relatively inexpensive fix - i'm guessing even if they have to replace the shutter completely, it'll be less than $300 or so, which is well within my limit for "economical repair". i virtually stole it when i got it anyway... paid $1300 for it 2 years ago, and between selling my old 30D and some prize money from a photo contest i won, i got the 5D for about $50 total out-of-pocket, so if i have to put a few hundred into it now to keep it working properly, i guess i can afford it...
i'm looking at MAYBE picking up a 5D2 after the MkIII comes out, if the prices on the 5D2 drop a bit, but even then, i'll keep the 5D as a backup. i doubt i could score the same kind of deal for a 5D2, but i can always hope!
