    went to the park this afternoon, even though it was overcast, just to get out with the camera. there was actually quite a bit of activity... just wish i'd had better light for these! 40D with 400-400L @ 400mm, 1/200-1/320 @ f/6.3...

    That must be quite a lens!

    I like 1 and 3. You missed the focus slightly in #1, but oh well - still a nice picture.

    yeah, the little stinker moved a tad just before i snapped the shot, and the lens grabbed his body, not his head... these little guys hop around a lot, unlike some of their larger cousins, and the light was so crappy i had very little DOF to work with...

    It is a nice lens and I reckon coming now into favour over the Sigma - I hope the new 150-500mm OS Sigma is going to be as good as the 80-400mm

    Amazon.com lists the 150-500 at $980 US, with a 1-3 month wait for shipping. it's new yet, so it may take Sigma a while to ramp up production.

    aside from the fact that this is NOT one of their "EX" lenses (their top-o-the-line series), and i haven't yet seen the MTF charts for it, it looks very promising... once i get a bit more info on it, i may look into ordering one myself!
